A consistent meditation practice requires discipline and self-kindness, is typically a solitary endeavor, and can wax and wane. Meditating with others on a regular basis can support one’s practice by providing the opportunity to discuss how the practice is evolving. In sharing our challenges, distractions, and places where we are stuck, we gain insight from each other and can feel less lonely in our struggles as we work to discipline the mind and open the heart.
Many weekly online mindfulness groups are large drop-in communities and don’t necessarily cultivate the connection and support associated with a smaller group setting. The purpose of these small, stable groups is to cultivate a sense of community and connection in which participants can learn from each other and a teacher as we explore our practice together.
